  • Academician Xia Jun of the Chinese Academy of Sciences held a symposium on hydrology and water resources

    On the morning of April 7, 2017, Academician Xia Jun was hired as a lecture professor by me. From 3 pm to 5 pm on the same day, in the conference room 102 of Building No. 1, the Academician Xia Jun of the Chinese Academy of Sciences held a symposium on hydrology and water resources. The forum was hosted by Prof. Huang Qiang, the leader of the Department of Hydrology and Water Resources. The Party Secretary of the School of Hydropower, Cheng Wen, Associate Dean Wang Yimin, Professor Shen Bing, and related teachers from the Department of Water Resources and Agricultural Engineering and the Municipal Department attended the event.

    First of all, Professor Huang Qiang gave a detailed introduction on the development history, research direction, team building, research funding, postgraduate training and platform construction of hydrology and water resources, pointing out the development advantages of the discipline and some existing problems. Then, the teachers in the discipline introduced their research direction, research background and some achievements to Academician Xia Jun.

    After listening to the research directions, research background and some achievements, the teachers of the Chinese Academy of Hydrology introduced some useful suggestions based on the research directions of teachers. The next step is the key content. In view of the development of the discipline, Academician Xia emphasized that the future research direction must highlight the regional characteristics and experimental characteristics of the Northwest and Loess Plateau regions, and propose the following suggestions:

    (1) The development of the discipline must be well planned, highlight regional characteristics, find the right position, and focus on the integration and complementation of the dominant direction;

    (2) Adhere to the experiment as the basis, highlight the brand effect; pay attention to the transformation of research results, work hard on patent applications and reward declarations at the ministerial level;

    (3) Encourage young people to work hard, and have ten years of perseverance and perseverance; strengthen international cooperation and exchanges, and pay attention to interdisciplinary interaction;

    (4) The school should have long-term planning for the development of young and middle-aged teachers, and continuously improve the competitiveness of academic talents through “external introduction and internal training”.

He graduated from Wuhan University (formerly Wuhan Water Conservancy and Electric Power College) in 1976. He obtained a master's degree in hydrology from the University in 1981 and a doctorate in hydrology and water resources in 1985. Mainly engaged in hydrology and water resources research. The systematic research results have been obtained in the theory and practice of time-varying nonlinearity of runoff formation and transformation. The theory and method of hydrological nonlinear system identification are proposed, which solves the problem of how to solve the nonlinear response relationship of rainfall runoff. The time-varying gain flow law controlled by soil moisture, rainfall intensity and multi-element combination of underlying surface is found. Hydrological nonlinear mechanism of runoff formation and transformation; development of time-varying gain hydrological model and water system method, significantly improving the accuracy of runoff prediction, nonlinearity, spatiotemporal variation and uncertainty of runoff simulation and regulation in solving changing environment In terms of research, important breakthroughs have been made and basic research in hydrology has been promoted. He was awarded the "International Hydrological Science Award" and the "International Water Resources Management Outstanding Contribution Award".
