At 10:00 am on October 17, 2014, Professor Xia Jun of Wuhan University held an academic report on “Water Science Frontier Problems and Nonlinear Water System Methods and Practices” in Room 202 of the Discipline Building of Jinhua Campus. Li Zhanbin, Dean of the School of Water Resources and Hydropower, Professor Huang Qiang, leader of the Department of Hydrology and Water Resources, and about 40 students, including Shen Bing, Li Huaien, Wu Junhu, Luo Jungang, Shi Wenjuan, Huang Lingmei, Mo Shuhong, and other graduate students, attended the report.
In the report, Professor Xia Jun focused on the challenges of China's water security issues, water issues in a changing environment, and hydrological systems methods and practices. Firstly, it puts forward the major water problems faced by China in the shortage of water resources, serious water pollution, frequent floods and droughts, and further establishes a scientific research system for water problems in changing environments, including water and climate, environment, ecology and society. The water system science of relationship research, detailing the interrelationship and interaction between water and climate, environment, ecology and society, and clarifying the physical processes, biological and biogeochemical processes involved in the water system science with water cycle as the link. And the process of human economic activity. Finally, based on the complexity and high nonlinearity of hydrological processes, a set of hydrological nonlinear system models with theoretical basis and practical significance is established, and the application test of this model in more than 60 regions of the country is summarized, indicating hydrological nonlinearity. Problem and water system theory research provides new inspiration for water science frontiers, thinking and practice for understanding and studying these complex issues.
At the end of the report, Professor Xia Jun patiently answered questions from the students.
Professor Xia Jun combined his own research experience in study and work, systematically analyzed the Chinese water issues and water system theory related knowledge, so that the students broadened their thinking and increased their knowledge.
The report will be hosted by Li Zhanbin, Dean of the School of Water Resources and Hydropower.
